War Stories

I’m battling the Canadian Legion Magazine, I sent my book “Lily & Me” asking to have it considered for reviewed in “Off The Shelf”.  It was turned down because it wasn’t about the war??? what!!! The book is about the first sixteen years of my life starting in 1939. Wasn’t that the year the second world war started? It tells of the Belfast bombings in 1941, the loss of our London flat to one of the first V1 flying bombs and many other similar articles I wont go into here. I’m not rattling on in the hope of selling books. I’m mad because the Legion Magazine is telling me I’m not a veteran of the war.  Well right! I didn’t carry a rifle or capture Hitler single handed, but I did live through the worse of times in the British Isles, gas masks rationing, air raid shelters(which was often my bedroom) spam the meat of choice, toys what toys, candies what candies, heck! I never saw a banana or tasted ice cream until 1948. I just blasted off an email to the GM of the Mag, I’ll let you know what if anything comes of it. Cheers
