Working Hard???

I don’t often agree with our Conservative Government, but I do agree with much of what the Finance Minister said regarding Employment Insurance and foreign workers. The need to bring in foreign workers while we have Canadians not working and drawing E.I is surely wrong. I understand there will be certain circumstances where it might apply, but not in all cases. When I began the process to immigrate to Canada in 1966, I was well prepared and had a job waiting for me. Nevertheless, as I filled in all the required forms at Canada House in Belfast, I recall the immigration Officer’s remarks. He said,”Son, when you get to Canada you will have to work for a living or go hungry, there are no handouts over there, its not like here in the UK”. I have always remembered those words and I have lived by them for my almost fifty years living in this great country. Never once during my life in Canada have I drawn employment insurance. Sadly I have often seen it abused, heard it called working for Team Canada, have known people drawing their government cheque while working under the table. I have heard others brag about living off the system. The problem is it drags our country down, it causes jobs to disappear to other lands, we become greedy and expect much more than we are sometimes worth. Canada was built by our ancestors, men and women that worked hard from dawn to dusk.
They were not too proud to work in fish plants, dig ditches or pick crops. If we want to keep this country great its time we all got back to hard work. Strive for quality and pride in everything we do and produce. Alas! its probably just wishful thinking.
Cheers and keep reading.

Bravo on your Blog this fine day. I came to Canada as a child with my parents,We joined with my grandparents and 3 sisters of my Mother. All married and oddly enough all had 5 chldren. These children (including myself) married and had 2 children apiece. Now Math is not my strong point and I say this with PRIDE> None of the members of this enlarged Canadaian family were ever unemployed. Only one has completed college. The rest of us were the proverbial Working Stiffs.
Canada is a great country and we MUST get people back to work and we MUST instill the work ethic that we learned from our parents. I too have seen the people who laugh and take their Pogey for a lifetime. That is sad.
I agree that one should move to where there is work. If you have a family EARN something do not expect a Free Ride. The Irish Rover , myself and countless other Immigrants never asked for nor received a FREE Ride.

  2. We have the same problem down here in the US. Lazy buggers who refuse to work. Drives me crazy.
