Have you ever wondered why in some countries they drive on the left hand side of the road and in other countries they drive on the right.. Would you believe me if I told you Napoleon was to blame ???
Seven hundred years ago everyone drove on the left. It allowed ancient Romans and the Samurai to keep their right arms free to draw their swords if an approaching peasant appeared to be asking to have his head lopped off.
Napoleon Bonaparte changed the rules for the countries he conquered. He was left-handed.
Don’t want to confuse anyone here in Canada, there are a still a few drivers who are unsure and generally drive in the middle. In this country we drive on the right, well! most of the time we do. However in Newfoundland they are going back to the old system of driving on the left. Starting in 2013 trucks and buses will drive on the left, if that proves successful in 2014 all remaining passenger vehicles will change over to the left. It is not expected that bicycles and motorcycles will experience any problems with the change. They should have been eliminated by 2014.
Cheers and keep reading.
I thought it was his fault! Very interesting post.
