It seems we have a diaper that needs changing here on PEI. Recently comments were made in the Media about the large pensions a couple of our Federal MP’s will receive when they retire. Lawrence MacAuley will receive approx $150,000 per year and Wayne Easter $130.000. It could be said MacAuley has appeared to work hard for his district, the fact the Wood Island ferry is still operating is mostly due to his efforts. He recently asked for names of people in his area that might be deserving of the Jubilee Medal. Easter? well not sure what he has done in this district, certainly nothing big comes to mind. In the last few elections the opposition have been weak and he has retained his seat. A question of being in the right place at the right time rather than the best choice. He was most offended about the pension issue saying he works very hard and is on call 24/7 Hmmm, I’ll have to think about that??. I wrote him some time ago stating my objections to all MP’s receiving the Jubilee medal. His response was less than professional when he suggested that I considered all MP’s as scum bags. That may or may not be true, however, I never use such defamatory terms on this blog or in emails, I like to think I put my point across, but do so in a respectful manner. I may use sarcasm at times but I don’t think I’m rude in my remarks. As for working hard Mr Easter, I have done my share and the few medals I’m entitled to wear were not awarded from sitting on a soft seat in parliament. The next time you feel like insulting a voter. or acting the fool in parliament by giving a Nazi Salute, or was it a Wave???to the opposition, you might stop and think first. That would be acting like a professional.
Hard to believe these large government pensions have been earned or deserved in the majority of cases.
Cheers and keep reading.
you know, when you go into public office, you need to steel yourself for comments…many far more derogatory than you have ever even approached…if you can’t take the heat, Wayne…
SPOT ON my Irish friend. The pensions for many MP’s are certainly unearned. I would estimate that in the house at any given time perhaps 35%, of the sitting members actually do anything for their constituents. Wayne Easter has been if anything an ABSOLUTE Embarassment to PEI and indeed to Canada. A waster and a user of the system to do as little as possible for as much as possible. He is a rude and crude man, and he certainly does not give of the air of pleasantness, that Islanders are supposed to possess ! ! ! HE has never smiled that I am aware of and if he attempted now his face would undoubtedly CRACK.
So once again I for one feel that your Blog hit the Proverbial nail on the head. Keep it up Amigo
Thanks Robby, He has simply had no real opposition in the elections. Most opposing candidates have fallen short. Only the last one came even close, and I can’t remember his name?
