The term “Gentle Island” is just one of many ideas used to make us sound like a wonderful environmentally friendly tourist destination. However for the people living on this Island its not so gentle or friendly on the wallet. We pay the highest taxes of the ten provinces, and we have the lowest exemptions of the ten provinces. I don’t have the actual figures but suspect the following. We have the most provincial politicians per capita. The most hospitals per capita, and the highest electrical costs. As if that wasn’t enough we also have to pay a bridge toll ($44) if we wish to leave the island. Next year these high taxes will increase by 9 percent when our too many and overpaid provincial politicians ad the HST (harmonized sales tax) to our already overburdened taxation. Might be a good idea and cheaper to go live on a tropic island somewhere. Wait a minute!! didn’t the Finance Minister Wes Sheridan already suggest that. I don’t want to be accused of stealing the only sensible idea he has proposed since being elected.
I can think of a lovely island that would suit our provincial government to a tee. Alcatraz Island!!!Oh sorry, it was already spoken for by the US Penitentiary system. They used it for the worse criminal types, it is impossible to escape from. Too bad its taken, it would have been an ideal retirement spot for our gang— er— I mean government.
Cheers and keep reading.
