Who Ran The Royal Navy????

The Posted Photo – Chiefs and PO’s of HMS Cockade circa 1956.

The Admiralty would tell you they ran the Royal Navy. Naval Officers would tell you they ran the Royal Navy. A Ships commanding Officer might say he ran his part of the Royal Navy. They would all be wrong, the real backbone of the Navy was the Chief Petty Officers and Petty Officers. Without these important lower deckers the Navy would have fallen into dreadful disarray. I suspect the same could be said of the Army and Air Force too. I think most sailors/soldiers/airmen feared the Master-At-Arms or the Sergeant Majors far more than their Commanding Officers..
Perhap we need a few of these fine Senior NCO’s to run our governments keeping them honest and in line. Not forgetting we could use a few to keep the members in Ottawa awake whilst in the house!!!!.

Cheers and keep reading.
