A New Pope

I have never had a great deal of respect or interest in the Roman Catholic Church. That has nothing to do with the fact I’m a protestant from Northern Ireland. Although I would readily admit to a fear of those cruel old priests that harshly ruled over many of my fellow and less fortunate Catholic neighbours. It has much more to do with Catholic church policies and archaic rituals. I do sincerely hope the newly elected Pope will move the church into the 21st century. It is time women were allowed into the priesthood, it is time church pedophiles were dealt with properly. It is time that the stand on birth control was changed. Why would any sane person say no to the use of contraceptives on the South African continent where HIV rages and destroys lives. Is it not time to consider all peoples as having value and that should include homosexuals and lesbians being welcomed into the embrace of the church. Perhaps the next Pope might take notice of the thoughts of the Dalai lama. Finally, this is not a diatribe against Catholics, but rather a hope that those ancient men that sit securely in the Vatican start to realize this world continues to change and move forward, and they need to change and move with it.. One can only hope.

God Bless and keep reading.
