It is nearing the time of year when local newspapers have nothing better to say and do than place a photo on their front page of a barmaid holding a pint of green beer. This is their insipid way of acknowledging the fact the 17th March is Saint Patrick’s Day. Ireland is many things, but green beer is not one of them. We have a vibrant history, both strife, struggle and great achievements have made our land what it is today. Ireland has never invaded another land, never forced our culture on others, yet we are a well know race throughout the world. We have spread Irish culture through music and song, stories and folk lore. A cheerful friendly race who have given the world great poets and writers, who have stood by their friends and allies in times of trouble. We have the world’s oldest whiskey distiller, and who is not familiar with a pint of Guinness? Please remember it is black not green!!! So in a few days time please celebrate with me as a proud Irish person, You don’t have to be Irish, but the chances are good that somewhere in your background you have Irish roots. I have posted the flag of Ulster, the forth province of Ireland, and I hope one day to see all of Ireland re-united as the one great country it was meant to be.
Erin go Bragh.
God Bless and keep reading.
PS – watch for my story of Blarney!!! I will post on Saint Patrick’s Day
