April 30th – 73 Years Ago

Deep in his Berlin bunker the German Fuehrer Hitler took his own life on the 30th April 1945 – 73 years ago today. The Russian Army was already in the city and its fall was imminent. Hitler had earlier Married Eva Braun, said good bye to his closest supporters and then retired to his private quarters with his wife where he shot himself and she took cyanide. The Worlds most evil man was dead, but the war would continue for eight more days under the leadership of Grand Admiral Karl Doenitz. The German surrender finally came on May 8th 1945. The war in the Pacific continued. In August of 1945 after the second Atom bomb was dropped on Japan the world war ended and peace returned to the Earth. Sadly the peace has never completely taken hold, since then we have the Korean War, Cold War, and continue to this day to have a variety of wars both large and small. Will we ever learn??? Will we ever know true peace in the world??? I can recall for many years after the war rumours abounded that Hitler was still alive. Possible sightings were reported in South America and several other places, many groups hunted for him. But as we know today he never escaped from Berlin, he was a coward fearing capture and took the easy way out.
