I Spy With My Little Eye.

It was recently mentioned in the news media that our Provincial Government was going to start carefully watching the posts on social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. In other words spy on the population. Well, there is nothing wrong with that if all they are doing is gauging public opinion. However, if they do it in order to punish those not fitting into the government profile, then it becomes spying. Indeed if people are punished for holding opposite opinions, lose their jobs, or relatives lose their jobs etc because of opposing views, then it becomes something much more sinister. Can you imagine a government using social media in such a way? Can you imagine how the Nazis would have used it had it been available to them?. It smacks of George Orwell’s book “1984” and moves us further away from our long standing governments of Democracy. Robert Ghiz needs to carefully reflect on these things before embarking on such an underhanded course of action. My advice to Mr Ghiz, try running the Province in an honest and responsible manner, seriously work to reduce the deficit, improve health care and education. Do these things and you wont need to spy on the people. Do like the rest of us and you will find social media can be used for enjoyment and fun.

God Bless and keep reading.
