The photo I have posted with this blog might be considered our Prime Minister’s idea of Transparency. The word transparency is used often these days as government policies become so much less clear. The photo also makes me think of Nero, fiddling while Rome burned. Our very own Emperor,(maybe that should be President) instead of fiddling is composing a hit list of friends and enemies. Some time ago I referred to Steven Harper as Herr Harper, seems I wasn’t far off the mark. Harper’s government already has a long hit list. A list of all his glowing misdemeanors, crooked deals, patronage appointments,(we know how some of them turned out Eh!!), Election phone tampering, denying veterans/youths admittance to his campaign rallies simply because they did not share his ideas. And of course the big one!!!he didn’t know anything about the Duffy/Wright payout. My wife thinks I’m probably already on his list (enemy column of course) and I would be flattered if that was so. It would mean I have ruffled feathers and have at least been noticed by my leaders. It would mean we are not all stupid or blind, it means many Canadians are wise to Herr Harper and his gagged inner circle. Like the three monkeys “See nothing-Say nothing-Hear nothing.”
Its not all Harper’s fault, he gets away with so much because the average Canadian either is unaware or doesn’t care. That was clearly reflected in the last election, he was elected to a majority with less than 40% of the vote. That was because so many Canadians didn’t bother to vote. We must care and we must vote, I understand its difficult to vote when one cannot see a worthy candidate. Nevertheless, vote we must. even if we vote opposite to how we have traditionally voted. Without a majority we will get a better, more open and most importantly a more honest government. A government where the elected officials will be held to account, where backbenchers will have a say in the house and not be silenced by an all controlling Prime Minister.
