November 22nd 1963 the day President John F Kennedy was shot in Dallas Texas. Where were you on that fateful day?
I was aboard the British submarine HM/SM Alcide en-route from Faselane Scotland to Portsmouth England. We had just completed our work up trials after a two year refit. Eight grueling weeks in Scottish Lochs and the North Sea, testing equipment and intensive training for the crew. Now we were travelling on the surface back to Pompey for Christmas leave and final storing before sailing to Canada on the 4th January 1964. I’m not sure of our exact location when the news was receive., We were somewhere in the Irish Sea, probably approaching the West Country and Cornwall. The dreadful news was broadcast in the late afternoon and was very sketchy in detail. I recall we were all stunned and the boat became very quiet. JFK was a great leader who had brought the World back from the brink of nuclear war during the Cuban missile crisis.
The World will remember you President Kennedy.
God Bless and keep reading.
This is a beautiful tribute and thank you for your service.
You are welcome Molly B
