More Boys Brigade.

001 003Strange how things develope and memories are recalled. Just before Christmas my boyhood friend sent me his membership booklet from the Boys Brigade circa 1952-53. If you look carefully you can see my name in Squad#3. I was listed as E Rodgers because in Belfast I was known as Eric, a shortened version of Frederick. Bobby and I lived on Ewarts Row and we joined the BB because they had a football team and we wanted to play. It was quite amazing to see this little booklet after all these years and it stirred many memories. However, the really interesting part about this book is what Bobby had scribbled on the back page. An address, an address on Thames Street where I had recently moved to from Ewarts Row. Thames street was on the far side of town from the 41st Boys Brigade base of operation. To find an address on my street listed in Bobby’s book was intriguing. And yes, as you have probably guessed  it was the address of a girl. Not just any girl but one Iris Dawson. Most of the girls that I knew living on Thames street had not yet graduated to the need for training bra’s. Iris on the other hand was long past the need of a training bra, she was indeed well endowed. Was this the rare and irresistible attraction for the boys of the $41st. I can’t say for sure because I can’t speak from any hands on experience.  I missed the boat on that one eh!!!!funny how after all these years I still remember the lovely Iris.  I remember one or two boys from the brigade lurking around the top end of my street too. Sadly she is long gone from Thames Street,  indeed Thames street is no more either. Two wonderful memories. No No!!!!! not what you are thinking. The booklet and the Brigade!!!

God Bless and keep reading
