You know, when I sit down to write a blog my wife usually says, are you going to rant about politics again? don’t you know no one wants to read that rubbish!!! My wife may be right, but By God we should all be reading and watching closely everything this Provincial Government does. If we don’t pay attention they will just continue the wild spending of our tax dollars while feeding us the same old glib answers. Is anyone aware that in the 2010-2011 fiscal report, by a simple stroke of the pen Wes Sheridan reduced the deficit by a whooping 28.9 million dollars. He did this by placing an estimated value on a number of properties previously recorded at $1.00 to zero. Smoke and mirrors at their very best Eh!!! Then in 2012 he claimed to have saved the treasury by efficiencies within Government and good fiscal management. Oops!!! He made a little error by using $25 million(HST monies) in two different fiscal reports. But of course he has a good excuse, he stated “you have to go with the flow with accounting rules”???? Really??? I thought accounting rules were not flexible, a CPA surely follows the rule that 2 and 2 makes 4, it does not make 5. However, what about his latest financial wizardry? Wes Sheridan’s gambling investments? 4-3 million dollars to Geo Sweep was bad enough, but now he is proposing a cash stimulus to revitalize the game of Bingo. I would guess he is hoping by increasing the number of players in the bingo halls more money will be available to charities such as the Soup Kitchen/food Bank. Perhaps his next move will be to encourage Islanders to buy more Lotto tickets. We should all rush out and use our spare change(who has spare change?) to win the lotto!!! The chances are really good right/ or was that about getting struck by lightening twice??? Is anyone laughing yet? if it wasn’t so serious it would make a dog laugh. You might ask why I bother? my answer is, someone has to or we will lose this beautiful Island to the banks and good Ole Wes etal will be sunning themselves on some tropical Island using their gold plated pensions!!!!!!! So folks take heed, act now and let your MLA know how angry you are (or should be).
God Bless and keep reading.
Islanders, in particular, and Canadians, in general seem to think that the hierarchy has the public’s interest at heart and are fully concerned in taking the bet care; yeah, and in spite of being told things by the press right to their faces. They believe that no matter what goes wrong or what the big people do wrong, they will be corrected. We don’t seem to realize that only few people get caught. The people that get caught amount to, probably, 10 % – wouldn’t surprise me, but we might never find out the true statistics. What am I describing here? I’m describing apathy and that has always been the problem of the Canadian. We have always taken things for granted. Why? Because we have been brainwashed into believing that we are the best country in the world. If we’re the best, how can we go wrong? I believe that, because we think we’re the best, is exactly the reason why there are a lot of things going wrong. We believe too easily what we are told. “A politician wouldn’t lie.” “A politician always does the best he can” is what we believe. We believe this about doctors, lawyers and clergy as well. We seldom question and too ready to believe what they say.
That’s the problem Francis, people just carry on, they mutter and complain in their local coffee shops but that’s it. Next election they elect them same idiots all over again. Oh! we’ve always vote Liberal/Consevative.
Also, I want to add to my comment that it was not a personal attack on my good friend and your dear wife. I thought afterwards, “O lord, it might have looked like I was attacking Linda’s comment.” Well, in a way I was but I was referring to the general attitude that we think that speaking out doesn’t help. Maybe it doesn’t but we have heard stories about a single person making a difference so it does happen. Can you imagine what changes would come about if more people started paying attention and started working together to form a voice on individual topics? And, O my! What if every politician was held accountable for every move and every decision they decided is best and, above all, be convincing that our money is put to good use?
Hi Francis, neither Linda or I took any offense, I think what we have in social media is a wonderful and powerful tool. The more we post our displeasure at the things our governments and politicians do the better. We may not eradicate wrong doing but might restrict it somewhat.
