Nice to be Well Thought Of.

duke benThe statement attached was part of the 2014 Award Ceremonies held at Holland College in Charlottetown on 15th May. It was my last official function with the Duke of Edinburgh Council. I’m greatly honoured and privileged to have been part of this prestigious organization for the past 25 years. It leaves a large and empty hole in my life as I make my final departure . I’m leaving behind my many good friends and such wonderful memories of times gone by. I hope by posting this article I will not be judged as blowing my own horn. Rather,I hope you will see it as a reflection of my efforts to help others and as repayment for the privilege of calling myself Canadian.

Past President, Robert Moffatt gives special presentation to our retiring Duke of Edinburgh Awards Standards Director Frederick (Ben) Rodgers. In 1989 Ben Joined the PEI Council Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. In 1992 Ben was appointed Standards Director and has held that position ever since (over 20 years).

Ben has been very active in the Award Program and especially the Cadet Program having a very proud Military Background.

In 1976 Ben received a Red Cross Life Saving Award from the Honorable Gordon Bennett, Lieutenant Governor of PEI and in 2012 the Queens Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Honorable H Frank Lewis.

Award Program:

Ben has brought his knowledge and expertise to the Award Program on PEI and shared that information freely with leaders and participants by reviewing and approving their books, participating in award training sessions and award presentations.

I can personally speak of Ben’s dedication to the Award Program on PEI as I served as Provincial President and a National Director for the past 14 years. I am well aware of Ben’s talents. His character is of the highest standard as is his Military and Community Service.
