The attached photo is what prompted me to write this blog today. I’m sure, like many others I find this a most offensive and pitiful example of the beliefs of many Religious denominations today. It is so sad that in this day and age such bigotry still exists. What is even more painful this the fact while mainline businesses except people based on their ability not their sexual orientation. While the military in Western nations except both men and women regardless of their sexual orientation. While the mainstream of civilized society accepts peoples of all sexual orientations. One prominent part of our Christian society seems unable or unwilling to deal with it.
There remains several religious denominations that do not only not accept, they often fervently oppose. They claim such human beings are sinners, are condemned to burn in hell, or claim they can be cured, or claim being Gay is a choice? These same people can quote you any number of chapters and verses from the Bible that claims homosexuality is a sin against God. They of course interpreter the Bible to suit their own agenda’s. It seems to me they avoid the more difficult parts of the Bible. For instance “God so loved the World” he didn’t say, so loved just some of the World. Now, no doubt some of these religious zealots can twist that statement to say he excluded sinners. Its a question of interpretation, or is it.? How about this one ‘Judge not less you be judged” surely that one is clear, do not judge! I fail to see how it can be misunderstood or interpreted differently. Do not judge means do not judge. When the Baptists-Catholics-Salvation Army-Pentecostals and other evangelistic sects claim people as sinners, what are they doing??? Judging. What about “love thy neighbour” can that be modified to just love the neighbours you approve of??? My guiding principle throughout my life comes from this. When the nurse handed into my arms a tiny and fragile minutes old daughter my heart, my love, my pride was so great I could have burst. One of the most miraculous things I have ever experienced. My love was unconditional then and remains unconditional today. Surely many of those who now stand in condemnation of gays must have at one time stood as I did with a precious new born life in their arms. Did they not feel the same wondrous love and marvel at this amazing gift from God. Surely they experienced the same overwhelming love as I did. How then can they later be so unforgiving so cruel so cold and so judgmental. It simply boggles the mind. I have tried to make my point but alas I realize it will fall on many deaf ears. In my own life I have attempted to be Christian, I try to do good, to help those in need and not speak evil of others. I believe this is the true philosophy of being Christian. I will leave you with this Bible quote from 1st Corinthians chapter 13 verse 13 – And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three, but the greatest of these is charity. In many versions of the Bible charity is replaced with the word love. I see the word “Charity” as glaringly absent in many so called Christian Churches, how about you?.
