I believe if Scotland vote yes tomorrow and separate from England it will be the saddest day of their history. I realize they have a great history of fighting the English, struggling to throw off the English yoke and so many brave Scots have died to be free. However, that is history it is in the past, it is not the same today, the Union is an essential part of the fabric of the UK. One can quote the old saying “Strength in Numbers”and argue the value of that. If we were to ask the average American the reason for the their civil war, most would tell you it was to free slaves and end slavery. But would they be correct? Abe Lincoln believed if he allowed the Union to break apart the US would end up like Europe with dozens of small nations. That was the real issue behind the American civil war, ending slavery was a timely and beneficial result of the war. I hope and pray the vote goes against separation and the Union remains intact. There are so many little issues that most people have not even considered in the event of a new nation. Health care, postal service, Education, policing, transportation, Infrastructure of Cities, towns and villages, the list is enormous! That comes after the new government decide on a currency? and that itself appears to be the dominate question and perhaps the biggest problem from the outset.
