Well, here I’m again, on the threshold of another New Year, 75 already under my belt. Do I get excited? No. Do I get older yes. Do I care? not much. As I look back and reflect on so many past New Years, it seems the same wishes were too often repeated. The biggest wish of all was hope for a new year that would bring world peace, A wish that was especially prevalent during the First and Second World Wars. However it seems to have continued into the Korean conflict, the Cold War, Bosnia, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Syria, N.Ireland and the endless African conflicts. Do I wish for peace this year, yes of course, but I also wish for more common sense, more compassion, more aid to the millions of displaced peoples. Imagine if here in Canada we decided to help the millions of Syrian refuges in the camps along Turkey’s border. Imagine if we did that rather than spending millions joining in the bombing of Isis. Much of the support for these terrorist organizations comes from people living a life of hell on earth. Can you imagine the situations in these overcrowded camps, the decease, lack of food, lack of hygiene, lack of a home, lack of a future for your children, lack of education. What more suitable place to grow new young terrorists than in these camps. As we enter into 2015 I certainly do not have all the answers, wish I had!! but surely helping those people so much less fortunate than us would be a good place to start. I guess I have come full circle in writing this blog!! I’m wishing for peace in the New Year. However, I wish much more for the compassion we need to help others. Happy New Year Everyone
God Bless and keep reading.
