The F Word?

Do you ever wonder why people use the F word so much. Is it perhaps a lack of vocabulary or maybe a failure to MacKay_0find the right word to express ones self. Is it maybe a bit of both?

Whatever the reason, it is a word often used and more often heard these days. There was a time when it was probably mostly used by men along with a variety of other swear words. But it was important to be careful and not to use it in the company of parents, children or ladies. Today it can be heard on the street in restaurants in shopping malls, in movies and on TV. When I was a young boy in the early 1950’s the F word was almost unheard of. Of course we had a variety of other words we were not supposed to use. God help us if the teacher or a parent heard us swearing, washing the mouth out with soap was the end result. Our words were mild compared with today. I remember using words like Crikey!!Blimey!!Crumbs but if I was really mad I’d use Bloody Bugger shit. Whilst in the Navy I recall visiting a US destroyer and above the chaplains office door were the words “Damn is not God’s surname”. As a young sailor I used all the popular swear words including the F word, but again we were always careful ashore to avoid such language in public. In the UK the word “Bloody” was a very common swear word, derived I believe from the term Blood of Christ. I have no idea were some of these other words originate from, although I can guess at a few. However where the “F” word came from I have no idea??? Phew!! There, I managed to write this whole blog without actually using the “F” word.
Good job too, I didn’t want to slip up and say Fuck on Easter Sunday!!!!!!.

I dedicate this blog to my dear friend Wendy!!!!!!
God Bless and keep reading.

We damaged the fin aboard Alcide while attempting to surface through the ice in 1964. Not a common thing but it does happen. It is less likely to actually collide with another submarine, and if that happened I think a lot more damage would be evident. But you are right, I believe our skipper did say Fuck when we struck ice!!!!
