Is it Is just me or do others see and hear what I’m seeing and hearing from our two major party’s? Neither the Liberals or PC’s seem able to or wont give straight forward open and honest answers to the islands most serious issues. In fact have they even talked seriously about the most pressing issues. Has anyone heard them mention the environment, pesticides, Crop rotations, fish kills, soil erosion, cancer rates, deep water wells, fracking, or air pollution. Only the Green and NDP leaders have directly addressed these important issues. When questioned on the issue of deep water wells, MacLauchlan said we need to create a water act??? Why do we need a water act? surely what is needed is a firm NO, no we will not approve deep water wells. All I hear is, we will study this, or we are creating a panel, or putting focus on, or consulting individuals. No firm policies offered just a bit of pussy footing around the edges of the problems. Of course they wont talk about it, they have no intention of upsetting the big corporations that fund their party’s. Abortion,we all understand it is a very contentious subject yet once again the two major party’s give only lip service, no real answers, they offer more of the same Status Quo. Only the Green and the NDP clearly state where they stand on the issue. How the PC’s can talk of a new direction or the Liberal a promise of a better way is beyond my comprehension. We all know what needs to be done regarding the environment and it isn’t more studies, it isn’t more investigations, it isn’t more scientific input. It is immediate action, and we need it now not two or three years down the road.I hope all islanders will consider this when they go to vote next Monday. If we really want to move in a new direction then give the other two party`s a voice in Government. Islanders will still get one of the two usual party’s as government, but if we elect a few Green and NDP to the house we will get some action and more importantly a real voice for change.
