Here we go again! the headline on page A5 of yesterdays Guardian Newspaper was in Large Bold Black Letters and stated the following “No Evidence”. Really???? Professor Dr Len Ritter with his smiling face poses in front of a PEI Potato Poster. Using his credentials as a Toxicologist he claims there is no evidence that the (safe) application of agriculture pesticides cause cancer. . Wow! what a relief to hear that!!! we have all been worrying for no reason at all. Fish kills? oh that is probably just caused by summer heat and lack of oxygen in the streams and rivers. Where do the Potato Industry find these guys and how much do they pay them for these amazing reports??? Now I’m no professor of anything, don’t have a lot of knowledge on toxicology. But I have been around for a good many years and I can tell the difference between good and bad soil. Have you looked at a dead potato field lately? Did you see any worms, weeds, growth, insects or just dead dry sandy dirt. I don’t believe or accept his findings about cancer, and I’d like to ask him about all the other ailments Islanders are suffering as a result of over use of chemical sprays. I picked up five or six dead European Starlings beside a field that had just been sprayed a few years ago.. Is this Toxicologist going to tell me they just died of natural causes? We must have a pesticide free Island and we must have it soon.
