Remember Remember the 5th of November???

guy1guy-fawkes-night-bonfirepenny-for-the-guyIts not an event that is celebrated here in Canada. However, had Harper won the recent election it might possibly have become an annual event. Blowing up the house of parliament in Ottawa could have well become a fact in 2015!!!.  But he didn’t win so lets set the gunpowder aside and wait to see how our new Prime Minister preforms. I feel confident he will do better then the last one, how much better remains to be seen, but at least he is more personable. It is sad to see how history effects all of us, even the children. When I was a young lad we went out with our Guy asking for a “Penny for the Guy” the money was to purchase fireworks for the big bonfire night held every 5th November. Alas, inflation has hit today’s children and the Penny for the Guy has been raised to three pence!!. I’m not even sure that is accurate because the photo with the increased price sign looks quite old. Is it possible the cost has now been raised to a Pound for the Guy. I recall a few years ago whilst in Dublin we encountered young children at the Ha’penny bridge asking for a pound. It took me back to my early youth when we’d say to a passerby “Give us a penny Mr. Sometimes we were successful but more often than not were told to f##k off. The good old days when times were hard!!! Happy Guy Fawkes Day.fireworks
