Hi Folks! just a little Legion talks this morning. This photo appeared in today’s Guardian newspaper. The medal bedeck person in the photo is Claus Broderson, he is the chairman of PEI Provincial Command, Wow!!!! He is also the guy who told me my resolution was unanimously voted down. It was wrong to allow blood relatives to wear late loved ones medals on their right breast to Remembrance day parades. Well, on reflection, he does have a point, if he was a blood relative he would not have room to wear late loved one’s medals on his right breast. Seriously, this photo is an example of today’s pretend veterans, the associate members who have all but taken over the Royal Canadian Legion. It is a sad fact people like Claus Broderson are today dictating legion policy. They parade with great pomp and ceremony wearing their self awarded pretend medals and garner the(falsely) respect of the local citizenry. Associate members are not and have never served in any branch of the military RCMP or Coastguard. I believe allowing associate members not only to join the legion but to actually vote, hold office and make policy was the beginning of the end of the legion as most veterans knew it. Membership is plummeting and new veterans are not joining, old veterans are leaving. A sad end to a once highly respected and vibrant organization.
We shall remember them.
God Bless and keep reading
