I heard on the radio over the weekend that they were going to hold a poetry contest? I was wondering if I should enter my poem an “Ode to Wade”. Nah probably not, the Guardian didn’t publish it in letters to the editor, so I doubt CBC would either. But you never know I might have won??????
He was the leader of the Liberal Brigade.
His vision was clear ,and transparency so dear.
So we trusted the government, he steered.
New roads did appear, with roundabouts near.
And Bypasses were all the rage, but then all at once,
came a causeway crunch. and cars stood idle and still.
As things turned bad and scandals were heard, angry motorist horns did blare.
Bottled water was new, to be sold by a few, permitted by Wade and his crew.
Our water was looted, our farm lands polluted ,while taxes flourished and grew.
While Islanders cried out ,and our wildlife died out, Wade’s vision prospered for the few.
But enough is enough ,when angry and gruff ,and we demanded changes to do.
Elections to come must be fairly run ,with all votes of the people to accrue.
Proportional vote ,not first passed the post ,rang out from our cities and farms.
Then the young lad called Wade ,with his Liberal brigade ,ashamed and disgraced, disappeared .
