There is a special remembrance service today at Kinkora HS to honour a former student. Warrant Officer Frank Mellish, Frank lost his life in Afghanistan. I knew Frank and also his wife Kendra, we were on courses together at CFB Moncton NB in the 1980’s. The school will hold a remembrance service at noon today in the auditorium. The guest speakers will be the Principle, Kendra (Franks widow) and Wayne Easter. It is because of the latter guest that I will not be attending, although it had originally been my intention. You might ask why! I find attending any military/veteran event such as this with Wayne Easter in attendance offensive. It might sound a little petty on my part but I cannot get beyond what I see as egotism and false pride. Easter wears his three medals (all hand to him merely because he is an MP) and rubs shoulders with veterans trying to blend himself into their groups, He does this on remembrance day and at many other veteran occasions. He has never served in any branch of the military, coast guard etc. Yet he parades himself proudly wearing his three shiny medals pretending to be something he isn’t. I just get angry, so its better to stay away, Sorry Frank-Kendra, you will always be in my thoughts.
God Bless and keep reading
