As we are once again in the Poppy Campaign period leading up to Remembrance day 2018. I thought it would be a good time to re-post this article from August 2016

Re: protesting the annual Poppy Campaign
The RCL does not sell Poppies it rather asks for donations. For the last 2 years I have worn a Poppy as a sign of respect and Remembrance and kindly explained to the Legion member as I take one from their box that I will not be making a donation because I do not agree with how the RCL allocates the Poppy Funds. I also tell them that I will be donating to the Veterans’ program of my choice. If we all did this, then 2 things would happen, Dominion Command would take notice and the Veterans’ programs of our choice would financially benefit.
This is a great idea Cathy, unfortunately it will only be successful if the whole population were aware and did the same thing. That is unlikely and while some of us can make it an issue, I fear Dominion will still receive the lions from the donations. However, having said that we should be positive, every little bit helps. Whatever we can do to get Dominions attention is a good thing.

A couple of days ago a volunteer came to my door with a poppy tray, I was very polite in explaining I would not make a donation. I told him that for the previous two years I had been seriously ill, the local branch were well aware of this, yet I received nothing from branch,  Provincial or Dominion. Not even as much as a get well card! This year I’m wearing a metal poppy pin embossed with my Submarine logo, purchased from the UK.
