Well folks it’s election time again so be prepared for all the promises and lies. Here on PEI we recently elected a PC government. For the last 150 years we have alternated between liberals and conservatives taking turns. They always promise to be different to be open and honest. The sad problem is enough people believe them so we end up with the same old politics year after year. Consider the recent Irving land purchase, totally illegal in my opinion , but only silence from the Premier?
Now we have to turn our attention to a federal Election coming up in October. The two front runners to become PM are Sheer and Trudeau! They tell us the sorts of lies they think will impress us. Poor old Andrew tells us how he came from a average working class family. He had to walk or ride the bus to school, his family didn’t own a car. Wow! that is just like so many of us working class Canadians. You see he understands our struggles because he went through them too. He promises if you elect him he will put more money in our pockets. Then we have good ole boy Justin, now he didn’t come from a working class family, Canadians know that. You cant drive a classic Mercedes and at the same time claim to walk to school! But hey! wait a minute didn’t I just see Justin riding public transport in a FB ad. The poor lads Mercedes must be in the shop? Oh! I mustn’t forget he also told us he’d put more money in our pockets if we re-elect him? The one thing that becomes very obvious about these two, they both know where our pockets are. I don’t know about you? but can anyone really believe any of this absolute nonsense? If Trudeau thinks riding the bus will garner votes, then one must really question his intellect and or common sense! Regarding Sheer! What can I say, he has no clear climate policy, and little else that makes me think he’d be a good PM. So where does that leave us in this election? Difficult question indeed. I think one must vote for the persons that don’t offer you more money in your pocket. That will promise their government will create lower taxes, higher wages, better health care, better housing etc. Please, please don’t be taken in again, vote for someone new, someone younger, someone who shares your concerns, someone who is truthful and has integrity . Might be difficult to find you say, yes but they are out there you just have to look. I believe the best we can achieve in this election is a minority government, whether it be liberal or PC . The power is then concentrated with two or more oppositions. To remain in government they must cooperate and are forced to act. We can achieve things like election reform, climate action, less hand outs to corporations. Things like millions of dollars gifted to Loblaws to buy new fridges, all the while claiming it is fighting the climate crisis? Let me leave you with this thought. How much do you think our four liberal MPs have cost us each year. By my reckoning it’s in the region of half a million dollars per year per MP. Consider their salaries, expenses, committee bonuses, offices, Ottawa apartments, government credit cards etc etc.
God Bless and keep reading.
