Election Promises!!!

We are into the final month of the federal election, and if you are anything like me, you have become numb from all the promises. The party leaders make the biggest promises and then depend on their various candidates to get them elected. At the candidate level we get the more localized promises, nevertheless, these promises are important for any hope of re-election. Let’s take a look at Robert Morrissey Liberal for Egmont, he was running against Gail Shea PC in 2015. He had a strong campaign cause, Shea was shouldering the blame for the island two tier EI. Morrissey rode in like a white knight declaring he would end the two tier system. As I recall he arranged a meeting in Summerside with the other three liberal candidates to discuss changing EI. It became his election promise to return the island to one single zone. We now know he and his three liberal colleagues were re-elected in 2015. We also know the island remains with a two tier EI system in 2019? Once Morrissey won his seat he disappeared into the woodwork for the next three years. He re-emerged recently to contest this election. The word “promise” is the key word here, and why we need to take a close look at the results from his four years in office. What results? Little or nothing has changed since the last election from anyone of the four liberal members. Which is why I believe we islanders should make a new promise. A promise to throw these four “do nothing” liberal MPs into the trash. That is my take on this federal election, what is yours?  God Bless and keep reading.
