I cancelled my Legion membership in January 2016 over double standards for veterans at the local Wellington branch PEI . Since then I have had nothing to do with any part of the Royal Canadian Legion, period. Nevertheless that does not mean I’m not a veteran and it also means the legion should still come to my aid should I need help. They claim they are there for veterans. I needed serious help a few years ago but my local branch ignored my plight, not even a get well card. Now we have legion branches all across the country asking for help, starting go fund me campaigns, bottle drives, begging for government help and generally asking for donations. Seems that what goes around comes around! Strangely I still get email advertisements from the legion. They are attempting to sell a variety of Poppy embossed everything from
umbrellas, coffee mugs bird feeders legion medals and the latest, a commemorative 75 year WW badge/pin. The sacred Poppy was never intended to be used commercially. When membership lists are published (by Dominion Command) they appear larger than one might expect, so I’m wondering if they add the names of veterans on there commercial mailing lists. I may sound cynical but I have little faith in the civilians that run today’s legions.
God Bless and keep reading
