Industrial Farming???

Industrial farming is the single biggest threat to our Province. The signs are all around us,  we do not need Corporate paid scientist telling us everything is fine. When did you last see a healthy worm in a potato field? See gardens swarming with birds, butterfly’s or bees? When did you last have to clean your windshield of bugs? Remember the last time another fish kill was reported, not so long ago. The warning signs are everywhere. Now the latest threat, the islands precious water supply. These huge holding ponds are just a way to get around the high capacity well moratorium. My question is this, directed to our politicians? Why are they allowing this to continue? Politicians are people, islanders like us, they live among us, raise their families with our families, enjoy the islands serene beauty, choose to live in this peaceful place. Yet when elected as MLAs it seems they change, forget their principles and election promises. Our two main party’s Liberal and Conservatives have for many years allowed the industrial farm corporations to do as they please. Yes, they have sometimes highlighted issues but they are generally allowed to fade away. Outrage over fish kills often point to chemical run off, yet the guilty person, if he receives any punishment, it is merely a slap on the wrist. Governments need to stand up and act on behalf of the people that depend on them, people who gave them their trust. If that means upsetting these corporations so be it. If it causes unemployment that will be the price we have to pay to save our Province. The island will recover and people will find more productive and healthier working conditions. Who can possibly agree that growing food using poisons is a good thing?? I’m seriously concerned and you should be too.

God Bless and keep reading.
