The Battle of Britain.

The Battle of Britain took place from July to October 1940. The Royal Air Force fought off the German attempts to gain mastery of the air. The Germans needed to control the skies if their invasion plans were to succeed. Germany had the largest and most formidable Air Force in the world, approx 4-1 aircraft strength against the RAF. Fighter Command consisted of pilots from all across the Empire and Europe. There were pilots from Australia, New Zealand, Rhodesia, Belgium, France, Poland, Czechoslovakia, South Africa, USA and Ireland. The heaviest air battles took place from mid August to mid September. Later the Germans took to bombing British city’s but by then the threat of invasion was over. The was over Eighty years ago, but I still remember it, the blitz and air raid shelters the blackouts and fear. Today I have to wonder if the Royal Canadian Legions across Canada are aware of the history of the Second World War. I have heard nothing planned to remember the men and women that served during those desperate days. No parades mentioned, no ceremonies at Cenotaphs, not even a publication in local news media. Where is the Legion? Is this not a moment in history worth remembering..? Alas today’s legion members are too embroiled with their own petty problems,  no time to remember the very  important reasons they are supposed to stand for..

We Will Remember Them.    God Bless and keep reading
