Government Layers

Learning this week that Kingston has a mayor prompted me to write this blog. Does the tiny community of Kingston really need a mayor? I do understand small communities need some form of protection. Whilst a resident of Ebenezer during the 1980s our community took issue with Gordon Lank and his plans to build a factory pig farm. Lank a ex MLA for the PCs received approximately one million dollar grant from the new,y elected PCs for his proposed factory farm. Well it was approved because we did not have a CIC and the factory farm was built. It didn’t last very long. However this is an example of small communities needing protection from this type of government friends getting their own way. Nevertheless, I do not believe we need more layers of governments, we do not need amalgamation of communities. We do not need mayors and councils we just need government to listen to the people. Not to listen to government friends and supporters of or retired politicians. This island is totally over governed and that costs us tax payers is far too much. We need to reduce the numbers of political leaders and the want to be politicians. Enough is more than enough, let’s hope the citizens assembly on election reform will help address is growing issue.
