Antique Car Show

I attended my first car show since the end of or maybe the end of Covid. The show was at West Point, a beautiful part of the island . Mother nature played her part providing lovely sunny weather. Maybe it’s just me getting old or perhaps times are changing. The vast majority of vehicles on show ranged from 1980s through 1990 s. My own car an Austin Cambridge 1966 vintage was among the oldest there. However, it’s not so much the cars as the people attending the show. Very few had ever seen an Austin Cambridge before and as it was British wondered how the steering wheel happened to be on the left. One person even asked if I’d had the wheel changed over. I repeatedly explained that in the 1950,60,70 lots of British cars like my Austin were on the roads across Canada. All were export models and came with left hand steering. However, what was even more astounding was my windshield sign with the image of Winston Churchill and the caption “ Never never never give up. Your Austin Cambridge!  A couple asked what it meant and who was the old guy!! Yes, I fear the times are changing and the cars with them. Then of course I’m changing too, but I still remember my history. So many of todays youth have no idea about the Second World War. Unless we count those screaming freedom with Nazi emblems tattooed on their heads and in other places. How very sad our society has come to this. Perhaps being old is not such a bad thing after all.  At lease, in my humble opinion .
