Government Grabs

I have questioned the motor vehicle safety inspection more than once, but each time I get the usual run around. I’m given ridiculous excuses, we need the safety inspection because of all the factory recalls, duh. Why would a brand new vehicle need a safety inspection. Can we honestly believe a dealership actually carry out the required inspection. Would you check for broken glass, pull the wheels to check the brake pads, check the tires for wear. Check front end parts, rust holes in the body, lights wipers etc. Of course not, and neither do the dealerships. However they do put a safety sticker on the car and charge for a full safety inspection. The current cost of inspection is between $35-40. The money from this unnecessary and actually work not being carried out is divided between government and car dealership. We the consumers are paying for this twice,  in tax and in purchase price of the vehicle. If anyone else was doing this it would be considered a scam. I realize this is only a small amount, but nevertheless, it’s a tax we should not be paying, especially in these costly times. This is only one of probably several other unnecessary costs charged to islanders. However, smiling Dennis King will tell you “it’s about people” although it’s more about him and his government members with their government cars, bicycle racks and credit cards. Other Maritime provinces do not require new car inspections, depending on which province new cars are not inspected for two to three years. It’s time the King government came into line. I recall our provincial HST was raised so we could come into line with our sister provinces. Just my thoughts on our out of line government
God Bless and keep paying taxes.
