Summerside Community Church

I recently read the message sent out by the Summerside Community church leader. The only part of his message that I could agree with was “Be Better”. As to the rest, it was pure nonsense to any reasonable person. Essentially Mr, Cavanaugh is warning his congregation to protect their children from the Gay Parade. How this or any other church behave amongst themselves is their business. How they worship and what they believe among themselves is fine if confined to their church community. However, when they take it upon themselves to make judgement on others, I question who or what gives them the right? Sitting in judgement on those they regard as different/sinners is not their job. I have often heard their well-used excuse “we love the sinner but hate the sin”. I’m not sure how that fits in with the words “We are all God’s Children” I like to think of myself as a Christian, not one of those apparently born-again Christians.  I merely try to be a good and decent person. I try to help when I see a person in need or struggling, for me that is the Christianity I was taught. I have such difficulty dealing with those I regard as do gooder hypocrites. Those who claim they are the true/real Christians and the rest of us are sinners/lesser humans. Let me give an example, some years ago we had a lay preacher (Baptist) at our United Church. In his sermon he acknowledged our inclusive policy. Then unbelievably in his sermon, when on to tell us we were wrong. He described a fig tree as his subject, the branches that did not bear fruit should be loped off. In fact, he is not talking about branches he is talking people. You know who, those dreadful gay sinners. When the leaf or branch is cut off it falls to the ground withers and dies, cut people off they too will wither and die. How can that be even considered preaching the word of God? But dare one suggest these born-again preachers are preaching hatred and they will call down the wrath of God upon your head . I suppose I could go on but think I have explained my views adequately.

God Bless and keep reading
