I expect at the very least this blog will be controversial, at worse will offend many Catholic followers. However, I have to write what I see, and I this case I see a massive waste of money. This visit is on a huge scale not unlike the Hollywood epics, Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments. Everything is staged to create a scene of wondrous holiness and faith. I see this Pope in his grandest finery with a circle behind him of liked minded robes and splendour. They stand dressed in robes with fine trim, fancy head dress. They clasp their hands as if in silent prayer. Hollywood could not do better, this is a production the likes of which we have never seen before in Canada. Whether or not this apology is genuine is sincere or merely showmanship, really doesn’t matter. What does matter is the cost, so much good could have been done if spent where it was needed. Listening to this apology he does not appear to apologize for the church, just those involved in running the homes. He makes no mention of the sexual assaults that took place in those dreadful homes. I’m sorry but he has failed to impress me, and I suspect I do not stand alone in those views. If the waters running through Grassy Narrows could have been cleaned and made safe to drink. The many other indigenous communities who still have to boil water. If money had been spent on those important issues, our indigenous peoples might have felt some real benefit. This apology, when he is gone, will be meaningless as a mother boils water to drink or to wash her child.
