My subject today is BIG! Big automobiles and there are many. I recall the gas prices in the 1970s, the big three rushed what they considered economy cars to market. Remember the Pinto, Vega and Omni! Well the gas crisis ended and big vehicles were back. Now today we have soaring gas prices again, yet I only see big vehicles on the roads. Saturday I sat in the Sobeys parking lot watching the different cars. In one row of twenty there were 13 SUVs three large trucks and four average size cars. I realize the auto manufacturers are phasing out cars/sedans. Instead favouring the larger SUVs and trucks. I find that hard to understand, is these SUVs are mostly huge, with often just one person in them. Same for the trucks. Fancy chrome everywhere, big wheels and tires, club cabs and clearly being used for anything but work. Surely cost alone would make these vehicle prohibitive, not too mention running costs. I see young families driving these big and fancy trucks. I see seniors driving these big fancy trucks. Some have disabled tags in the windshields, and little lady’s struggling to get in or out. Does not make sense to me, shouldn’t we be down sizing vehicles in view of running costs. Of course we have emerging electric cars, yet too costly for most people, or that’s what I hear. So why big SUVs and trucks, they must cost as much or more than the available EVs. The old adage “ big is not necessarily better”
God Bless and keep reading.
