Species at Risk

There are apparently many species at risk on our island. It was reported in yesterdays Guardian (2nd Aug 2022). Nature PEI,  Rosemary Curley and Harriet Lavers are both concerned and trying to do something about it. Taking it to the schools is an excellent idea. Teaching children to care for nature is commendable and indeed necessary. Presently on PEI we have too many species at risk. Three species of bumble bees, four Lichen, fifteen birds and several other arthropods such as bats. We also have many types of fish, we all know about the fish kills. So while these two caring people are doing their very best to save our natural environment, what are we doing to help. Nothing much from what I see, people cutting their lawns rather than providing a food source for bees. Some are still spraying to kill Dandelions and other weeds. However, the worse offenders are the farm sprayers and the Irving Corp. They already know this but clearly do not care, to them money is more important. Most of the island soil is already ruined by chemicals and devoid of insects and worms. Our rivers and streams are polluted and devoid of fish. What needs to be done? our Government needs to act, although that is mostly wishful thinking. The present breed of politician are well and truly in Irving’s control and pockets. Afraid to rock the boat, well pretty soon this boat will capsize if nothing is done. Once a species is gone, it will never come back, if we lose the bees Irving will no longer matter. Something to think about for the next election, to date Liberals and PCs have failed to act. Surely it is time we elected men and women who truly care.
God Bless and keep reading.
