Yes I know it will bring in money for the restaurants and hotels, and perhaps some other businesses. However, one has to question why we are hosting a winter games, where is the snow, the ice and the winter atmosphere. PEI is really not the ideal winter sports province, Northern NB would be a much better site surely. Apart from the obvious, it also appears we are far from being properly organized. The fact the Games Authority are offering students at UPEI $1500 each to give up accommodation for the two weeks. Question, did the director of the games not know how many athletes were coming. Did he not know how competitions, how many competitors, how many provincial teams would be attending. It would seem those facts should have been well known before the games started. Lastly our schools are close for those two weeks because the games require the school buses. Granted one of the two weeks will considered as the March Break. Nevertheless, our students will miss one whole week of schooling. Overall, I have to wonder who organized this messed up situation, and what are the cost overruns??? I’m certainly in favour of sports, summer or winter, but should it not be organized sports. These winter games appear to be disorganized shoddy and haphazard.
