Where Did This Young Sailor Go???

Its a fact that as we grow older, slower, stiffer, and lose most of our teeth and hair, our book cover_0001mind remains young. As the body ages it regularly fails to live up to the expectations of the mind. We make silly statements like, wish I was twenty again knowing what I know now. Maybe, but I think life would be very boring if as youngsters we had been as smart as we think we are today. In my youth each day was an adventure, I didn’t have time to stop and think. Is what I’m doing a good idea? who cared! I just did it and worried about the consequences later. I was indestructible, a carefree risk taker, I probably left many disappointed people in my wake, to them I say sorry. I sailed from one adventure or maybe disaster to another without a second thought. You see it is the mind that remembers these things, if it were the body we’d probably be in constant pain!. Ah, how we yearn for the good old days, but would we really change anything from our past if we had the opportunity. I don’t believe I would change very much, I probably would not have bought that 1952 BSA motor cycle? I might have worked a little harder to better myself and definitely not have married in 1963. Overall, I can look back on my life with a fondness, I can over look my mistakes and re live (in my mind)the good times of which there were so many. I can be proud to say I served my country, obeyed the law, took time to help others, was blessed with my beloved wife Linda and our two wonderful girls. Yes life back then was good, yet life today is better, even if I do move a bit slower. In many ways it is indeed the Golden Years, perhaps only in the mind but nothing wrong with that either.

God Bless and keep reading.
