I’m not a cyclist these days, my bike riding is long in the past. However, I’m disabled and in summer months use an electric wheelchair. Looking at what the city call bike lanes, I would be scared to use them. I realize there are some reasonably safe areas, but I would not include many city streets. North River Rd, University Ave and several other bike lanes are a poor excuse for real safety. To use North River Rd bike lanes with my electric scooter would be foolhardy at the least and suicide at the worse. If the city is going to provide safe cycling then please do it properly, not the weak excuses we have now. Looking at city’s in Denmark and Norway might be a good place to start planing our own cycle paths and lanes. If we are to reduce vehicle numbers in the downtown streets then bicycles are one good answer. Plus we are seeing a rapid increase in the use of electric bicycles. So before you plan more roundabouts try improving access lanes for bicycles.
God Bless and keep reading.
