I watched the program “Fifth Estate” last evening, the topic was the on going saga of the Governments purchase of the F35 fighter jet slated to replace the aging F16. Now this was an hour long program, with several interviews, and clips of politicians talking about the purchase/contracts/partnerships/guarantees/etc/etc. There was even a clip of two smiling and prominent cabinet ministers sitting in the cockpit of an apparent F 35?? one at a time of course. I have to say at the end of the program I was still not clear on whether we have cancelled or ordered these planes. ???? Please don’t ask me how much they will cost if they do/have purchased them.. If a government ever wanted to confuse the people, this government really got it right. I’m soooo confused!!! Did the Defense Dept actually do a comparison test with other products? They say yes, but if they did it was never recorded or made public. During Harper’s 2010 election campaign he claimed he was replacing the aging F 16 with the new world class F 35. Then just this year it was announced in parliament that the government had not committed to the purchase of any new fighters.. On top of all this smoke and mirrors is the fact the F35 doesn’t actually exist. Lockheed have built a few test models, but no actual F35 fighter jets are yet available. Is there anyone out there who could explain this saga of misinformation???. I feel sorry for the RCAF, maybe they could buy a few Spitfires. The RCN can relax though, the Bluenose has just been re-launched and is back in the water and will soon be ready to rejoin the fleet.
Oh Dear! my mind is wandering must be the confusion!!better sign off.
Cheers and keep reading.
